The two lines most handyman invoices leave out
“Approved $180 by Dana on Sep 4.” Quoting the approval on the bill is what makes the total unarguable. The customer sees the number they said yes to, sees the total matches it, and pays. When the job grew, the added-work line quotes its own yes.
The photos line. A before-and-after with a time on it, linked from the invoice, is the whole proof of work for a customer who was not there. It also ends the “did you actually replace the part?” call before it happens.
Labor and parts as separate lines is not about the customer checking your math. It is about the customer’s accountant, the customer’s rental deduction, and the customer’s memory in six months. Two lines cost nothing and answer all three.

Questions people ask
Should a handyman invoice include the hourly rate?
Yes, on the labor line: hours times rate. It is the one thing the customer will ask if it is missing, and showing it is what makes a fair bill look fair.
How do I invoice materials?
As their own line, at cost plus whatever markup you told the customer (10–20% is usual; see the price list guide). Keep the receipt; a customer who asks to see it is entitled to.
When is a handyman invoice due?
On completion for small jobs, or within 7 days. Put the date on the bill and say how to pay; a bill without a due date is a bill that waits.
What about a trip charge or a minimum?
Its own line, named plainly. A customer who was told about the minimum when they approved the job will not mind seeing it; one who was not will.
